Hanshi Karl Kazuo Hovey - Biography
Hanshi Hovey is a highly respected martial arts master, best known in the martial arts community as a senior practitioner of Isshin-ryu Karate. He is a significant figure in the propagation of Okinawan karate in the Mid-Atlantic region, particularly in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Hanshi Hovey was inducted ionto the Isshin-ryu Hall of Fame in 2009 - an honor that recognized his decades of dedication to the art and his influence as a teacher.
During the 1970s and 80s, he operated a highly influential dojo in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is credited with mentoring several prominent martial artists who went on to establish their own successful schools.
Hanshi Hovey is known for his technical precision and deep understanding of Okinawan kata, Hovey's lineage is often tied to the "first generation" of American (Don Bohans) and Okinawna (Angi Uezu) Isshin-ryu practitioners first-generation who studied under the founder of Isshin-Ryu (Tatsuo Shimabuku).
Hanshi Hovey has hosted numerous martial arts camps, and presented seminars all over the Mid-Atlantic coast matial arts community for decades.
