Master Monique Washington-Jones - Bio

Master Monique Washington-Jones is a second-generation martial artist with over 40 years of martial arts experience to include training, competing, and teaching. Over the years, her skillset has matured into being an entrepreneur, speaker, facilitator, coach, tournament promoter and advocate for female martial artists, business owners and leaders within the community.

Martial arts experience: 

  • 1985 Student under the instruction of her father; the late Grand Master Douglas Washington Jr. in a combined curriculum of Japanese and Korean martial arts

  • 1986 Competitor in kobudo, kata and kumite

  • 1992 Student and instructor promoted to Sho Dan (1st degree Black Belt) by the late Grand Master Washington of Washington’s Karate Dojo in Charles City, Virginia

  • 2007 Owner, Head Instructor and Competition Team Coach of WKD Karate 4 Girls in Columbia, Maryland

  • 2014 Tournament Promotor for the Mid-Atlantic All Female Karate Open in Howard County, Maryland. 2016 World Games Competition Coach for Team America in Essenbach, Germany 

  • 2018 Mentee of Hanshi Karl Hovey after the passing of the late Grand Master Washington. Hanshi and Grand Master were friends turned brothers, both providing martial arts guidance since her childhood

  • 2023 Student promoted to Nana Dan (7th degree Black Belt) by Hanshi Karl Hovey of VA and Hanshi Larry Isaac of NC

Master Washington-Jones' primary residence is Richmond, VA with her husband; David. She is a step-mom, dog-mom and mentor to many.
