Master George Skelton - Bio

George Skelton started his Martial arts journey in 1979. Initially, he trained with various individuals in Tower city and Pottsville areas, including Shihan John Kell. He eventually trained with Shihan Harry G Smith. In 1997, he was received his Sho-Dan from Harry Smith and in 2000, he received his.NI dan.

Master Skelton received his San-Dan and Yon-Dan degrees from John Kell. During this time frame Sensei began training with Sensei Craig Byle and Paul Zelnick at the Gratz Community Center. Master Skelton also trained with Don Monosmith for a time in Harrisburg PA. Master Skelton continued to train and encouraged his students to attend local Karate Tournaments. Around 2015, George met Senesi Allen Hossinger from Newville PA and Master Holsinger became Master Skelton’s sensei until his passing. Master Skelton received his Go-Dan degree from Sensi Hossinger in 2016.

After Master Holsinger’s passing, Gratz Community Karate Club, was introduced to Dillsburg Academy and Master Vasquez. and Master Skelton asked Master Vasquez to be his Sensei which he accepted until Master Vasquez’s passing. Master Zach Miller then became his Sensei. In 2023, Master Skelton was awarded his Roku-Dan degree. In 2025, Master Skelton was inducted into the PA Karate Hall of Fame, and was awarded his Nana-Dan rank by Hanshi Karl Hovey, Hanshi Rod Crimmins, Master Miller, and others.

Master Skelton continues to teach at Gratz Valley Karate and encourages his students to train with Dillsburg Karate Academy as well.
